Average cost | $ | $$ | $$$ | $$ |
The good | – never need repainting – especially energy efficient | – beautiful | – strong – maintenance-free – more energy efficient than vinyl | |
The bad | – limited colours | – higher U-value than wood or vinyl – prone to condensation | – high maintenance |
Argon gas
Argon gas is denser than air, so it’s added between double paned windows to improve the R-value of the window. Used with a low-E glass coating, argon gas windows bring the temperature of the window closer to room temperature. This process greatly reduces air currents and drafts that occur when different temperatures meet.
Since I live in a place where the winter can be as cold as -25°C, I will likely be spending the extra money for double paned argon gas filled windows.
